Founded in 1990 by visionary Odissi dancer Protima Gauri, **Nrityagram** stands as India’s first modern **dance village**—a Gurukula-inspired residential community where artists live, train, and create within an immersive, purpose-built campus. T he Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, advances classical traditions through rigorous training, creative innovation, and acclaimed global performances.

This rare confluence of art, architecture, and community makes Nrityagram not only a sanctuary for the spirit of Indian classical dance but also a living testament to its continuing evolution.


How to join this session

You don’t need artistic skill to participate in this event – just boundless curiosity and a love for drawing. To connect with other participants, please use our community on Discord.

If this is your first time and would like future update on events, and more. Please register here. Once you arrive at the location, choose a spot you’d like to sketch and get comfortable.

There is an entry ticket at Nrityagram, INR 150 per person.


Things to carry for this session

  • A sketchbook/paper/drawing surface.
  • Any medium you would like to use/learn/try.
  • A portable chair/mat. If the location has no seating, we tend to sit on the ground.
  • Water bottle and snacks.
  • Carry some food as this space has no canteen ( Food cannot be eaten inside the premises)

Notes for this location 

  • There is an entry ticket of 150/- per person charged by Nrityagram.
  • We meet near the Nrityagram office for a quick brief at 10am. We reconvene at the same space at 1pm for the Sketch Showcase.
  • Carry lunch / snacks as this space has no canteen, food can be consumed outside the campus.
  • Please do not litter. All litter must be carried back to the city to be disposed of.
  • Photography of dancers and dance classes is not allowed.
  • Participants are requested to maintain silence during the classes, and in the campus. If you wish to listen to music, please carry headphones.

How to get there

As suggested on the Nrityagram website 
Nrityagram is 35 kilometres from MG Road and 5 kilometres from Hessaraghatta village. There are several options to get here:
  • Private Transport: car or two wheeler
  • Bus
    • From City Market take bus number 266A, 253C, 253D, 253E
    • From Majestic take bus number 253J
    • Buses stop at Hessaraghatta village, where you can get an auto-rickshaw (Approximately ₹150/200 one-way).
  • Metro
    • The closest Metro station is Dasarahalli.
    • From Dasarahalli take bus number 253D, 253E, 253F or 253J to Hessaraghatta village, where you can get an auto-rickshaw (Approximately INR 150/200 one-way).
  • Don’t forget to be in touch with the community via discord as you travel perhaps you can find travel companions to this location.
