Remember when drawing was just thinking on paper?
When we were children, drawing wasn’t art, we processed our world through our drawing books. Somewhere between the ages of 12 and 14, most of us hit the ‘Drawing Cliff’. We started worrying about being “good” and forgot how to just see.
Sketch Journaling 101 is designed to help you climb back up. We teach you to move beyond the mechanics of a pen and develop a true Artist’s Mindset..

The S.A.I. Loop
The SAI loop is a unique framework to help you sharpen your ability to observe and inspire you to develop your own unique visual language and style.

Seeing
Learn to observe the world carefully, noticing the shapes, light, and gestures others miss. Learn how to bypass your brain’s shortcuts to see true values, light, and hidden geometry.

Awareness
Recognise how what you see actually makes you feel. Ask the vital question: “Why did this catch my attention?” Pinpoint the spark and learn how to compose your own interpretation.

Interpretation
Express that unique experience on the page through your own creative voice. You are an visual interpreter, not a camera. Turn even the most mundane scenes into visual-stories and memories.
STUDENT FEEDBACK
“The activities and exercises were well thought through and gave us good foundational skills to maintain a sketch journal and further build our skills as we proceeded.”
Anna Schurmann is a applied public health researcher who attended the first cohort of our Sketch Journaling course.
