Built in 1905 by Gangadhar Chetty, a prominent businessman, the house later became the residence of Colonel Jai Prithvi Bahadur Singh, the Raja of Bajhang, in 1921. He renamed it Jaya Bhavan and used it as a space for his spiritual and reformist pursuits, including hosting weekly meetings of the ‘Humanistic Club’.
It was donated to the Sri Aurobindo Society in 1979 and became a center for promoting the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
