488 yr old Bangalore Fort, whose roots stretch back to 1537 when Kempe Gowda I built a modest mud fort to anchor his budding township.
Over the centuries it was refortified in stone by Hyder Ali and further shaped by Tipu Sultan’s era, before becoming a focal point in the Anglo-Mysore conflicts. Though much of it has vanished, the surviving Delhi Gate, bastions, and plaque marking the breach of 21 March 1791 still speak of siege, resilience, and layers of history.
Now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, it stands in the heart of Old Bangalore as a historic, protected monument and landmark. We are delighted to have received permission from ASI to draw at this location.
