The Bhoganandishwara Temple, is at the base of Nandi Hills, is one of Karnataka’s finest and oldest surviving examples of Dravidian temple architecture. Believed to have been built in the 9th–10th centuries by the Nolamba-Pallavas and later expanded by the Cholas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara rulers, it reflects over a millennium of South Indian temple-building traditions. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, its intricate carvings, twin shrines, and the graceful stepped tank tell a layered story of dynasties, devotion, and enduring craftsmanship.
Now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, it stands in the heart of Old Bangalore as a historic, protected monument and landmark.
